Laboratory locations

As a member of Huelsenberg Holding, Schaumann BioEnergy Consult uses the laboratory locations of its partners ISF Schaumann Forschung in Wahlstedt (Schleswig-Holstein) and Lactosan in Kapfenberg (Austria).


State-of-the-art technology and highly qualified, experienced laboratory staff ensure an excellent quality standard and a wide range of services. All laboratory sites regularly participate successfully in official ring tests for quality management purposes.

Process monitoring - The key to successful feed management of biogas plants.

The analytics packages provide you with a fine-tuned view of your digester. Analytics form a prerequisite for undisrupted, economical plant operation and an optimal return on investment.


Digester analytics

Trace element analyses are carried out using cutting-edge methods like iCAP spectrometry; they detect crucial parameters even at lowest concentrations. The analysis determines the exact plant-specific requirement of essential trace elements. On this basis, the formulations for process-optimizing BC.MAGXX (granulate) and CR.TEplex (liquid) micronutrient blends can be manufactured.

Our range of services:

  • DM content, oDM content, COD content and pH value, macro- and micronutrients.
  • Spectrum of short-chain fatty acids (acetic, propionic, butyric, valeric acid, their branched forms) and, if required, longer-chain fatty acids (for example, caproic acid) and acetic acid equivalent.
  • Total and ammonium nitrogen, calculation of free ammonia
  • FOS/TAC value (ratio volatile organic acids / buffer capacity by titration)


Feedstock analysis

Our laboratories determine all decisive content values for the exact evaluation of feedstock quality, be it from organic residues or energy crops (i.e. its storage stability and fermentation acid patterns).

  • DM and oDM content and determination of fermentable organic matter (FoM).
  • Spectrum of short-chain fatty acids (lactic, acetic, propionic and butyric acids as well as alcohols)
  • Weender feed analysis
  • Total microbial load as well as yeast and mould population
  • Crude fibre content (ADF, NDF, hemicellulose)
  • Total nitrogen content, macro and trace elements
  • Calculation of the energy content of the substrates (NEL, methane yield, ...)

BMP tests

  • Determination of input material quality

  • Leakage detection: Combined measurement with hydrocarbon sensitive IR camera, portable CH4 sensors and GC measurements in the laboratory incl. on-site leakage detection of single-membrane and double-membrane roofs, methane slip.

  • Exhaust emission tests (formaldehyde, NOX, CO)
