Special additives - Ammonia inhibition

Ammonium or ammonia is the decomposition product of all nitrogen compounds in biogas fermenters. Dissolved ammonium and free ammonia exist in a temperature- and pH-dependent equilibrium. Since free ammonia has a toxic effect on a large proportion of microorganisms involved in the biogas process, stability and efficiency of the methane formation process declines with increased feeding of nitrogen-rich substrates. Feedstocks such as poultry manure, dry chicken litter or food waste are often characterised by high nitrogen contents.
We have developed the BC.ATOX Ncon product line in order to be able to use these substrates more effectively without having to fear operational downtime or to combat an already existing inhibition. In its use, each product has its specific focus. The choice of the right product for the specific application is made by your AD consultant.

Special additives - toxin inhibition

Besides ammonia, mould toxins, so-called mycotoxins, are another cause of poor biogas yields and digester breakdown. Frequently due to incorrect storage, feedstocks, be that silages or organic residues of any kind, show a tendency for mould formation, whose toxins can then upset digester biology and result in performance failures in biogas production.  Due to changing weather patterns in the wake of climate change in recent years, native mould growth has been on the increase, especially in fresh maize. If this is not actively counteracted by the use of silage additives, optimal clamp compaction and covering, moulds will multiply in the clamp a feature if which is energy loss and toxin generation. The same applies to biogenic residues that have been stored for too long or incorrectly, for example from animal or human food production.
Contaminated feedstocks fed into the biogas plant carry a high risk of causing considerable biogas yield losses or even a standstill of biogas production in the digester.
To combat these highly effective toxins, we have developed products based on algae that can neutralise them. The surfaces of algae extracts in particular can bind toxins highly effectively and thus offer optimum protection for the biocenosis.

Special additives - defoamers

The decomposition of organic substrates in biogas plants may release foam-active substances that lead to stabilisation of gas bubbles on the surface. The result is the formation of a foam carpet and reduced degassing. If the foam reaches the gas collection line or triggers a filling level alarm, considerable damage and loss of return on investment can occur.
The products of the BC.SPcon line are specially developed for biogas production and act quickly and comprehensively against a wide variety of foam types. The products are completely biodegradable and contain no silicone compounds. Negative influences on the fermentation residue quality are therefore excluded.
