The effect of enzymes

Enzymes are specific biological catalysers, which accelerate or even make possible the biochemical reactions.
In the first step of biogas production - hydrolysis - enzymes split the materials in the substrate (cellulose, hemicellulose, pectins, starches, proteins, lipids) into substances that can cross cell membranes (sugars, amino acids, fatty acids). There are 2 enzyme groups at work here:
Only after this step can the bacteria involved in the biogas process perform the further steps of biogas production.

 


Enzymes support the methane generating process when using fibre-rich substrates.
Various enzyme types support the fibre and molecule breakdown processes in the hydrolysis phase
