Cereal preservation

Preservatives for fresh and moist substrates

BC.ACID 1 and BC.ACID 2 are acid mixtures specially produced for the preservation of fresh and moist or pumpable substrates used in biogas production. They prevent the growth of mould and bacteria during storage and protect moist cereal, CCMs and secondary raw materials against yeast deposits that impair the subsequent fermentation process.

BC.ACID 1

For moist, pumpable substrates

Liquid storage Acid mixture for the preservation of moist and/or pumpable biogas substrates during liquid storage.

BC.ACID 1 is used for the liquid storage of milled cereals, CCMs and other substrates. It ensures stable and loss-free storage conditions in the container, even if the moisture content fluctuates.

BC.ACID 2

For moist, bulk substrates

Moist cereal Acid mixture for the preservation of bulk biogas substrates during storage.

BC.ACID 2 is designed for use with fresh whole-grain cereals and other moist bulk substrates. Thanks to the low evaporation rate, it is particularly user-friendly. The method is highly effective from the moment the substrate is brought into storage.

How BC.ACID works

BC.ACID 1 and BC.ACID 2 have excellent antimicrobial properties. The acid mixtures interfere with the carbohydrate metabolism of the microorganisms and inhibit microbe propagation.
By lowering the pH of the substrate, BC.ACID creates an environment that is hostile to the existing microorganisms.
Effect of BC.ACID 1 on yeast infestation in a liquid substrate:
Effect of BC.ACID 2 on the aerobic total germ count in wheat (moisture content 14%):
BC.ACID reduces yeast growth and the aerobic total germ count
As the growth of microorganisms is impaired, less nutrients are lost during storage. As a result, the measured CO2 respiration is reduced.
BC.ACID 1 reduces the CO2 respiration of microbes
BC.ACID 2 reduces the CO2 respiration of microbes
BC.ACID prevents the decomposition of nutrients, which leads to lower CO2 respiration

The result

BC.ACID reduces the growth of undesired microbes and thus helps prevent nutrient loss. This has two beneficial effects for biogas production:

1. Preservation of the energy content during storage
The substrate contains a higher level of nutrients that are required for the production of methane.

2. Reduced negative impact on the fermentation biology
The number of foreign germs entering the fermenter is reduced, protecting the balanced microbiotic culture.

Your benefit

Moist biogas substrates are exposed to a high risk of rotting during storage.
BC.ACID 1 and 2 have been specially developed to meet the needs of biogas production and ensure optimised substrate hygiene. By using these agents, the energy contained in the substrate is preserved for higher biogas yields.
